Trade Union of Students "Unity"

What is the All-Russian Trade Union "Unity" and how does it help in student life? What advantages do its participants have?
Trade union organizations are the only public organizations whose rights and guarantees are enshrined in the laws - the Federal Law "On Trade Unions, Their Rights and Guarantees of Activity" and the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.
Student trade unions are student organizations operating within the framework of a single national structure that unites young people with other categories of citizens. These and other features give student unions operating on the principles of self-government a significant advantage and allow them to perform the function of regulating relations between the university administration and students through social partnership.

All-Russian Trade Union "Unity"

The All-Russian Trade Union "Unity" is the oldest voluntary association of citizens, was established in 1989, and united more than 10 million of its members.
Today, the trade union "Unity" is a trade union of a new quality, the main purpose of which is to educate a new type of person, assist in the realization of his talents and creative potential, build a new economy and a new society.
The Union "Unification" is a people's Union of professionals and masters of their craft, which unites employees of small and medium-sized enterprises, cooperatives, entrepreneurs, teachers and students, provides its members with representation of interests and protection of their social and labor rights.

"Unity" - students' union

The Union "Unity" is a special form of self-government and organization of students, which provides them with additional opportunities and advantages. Participation in the activities of the Trade Union helps young people to realize themselves as a person, individuality, to assert themselves, to develop their interests and abilities at the same time, to realize themselves as part of a large strong team.
One of the leading directions in the activities of the Trade Union is the work on the protection of the rights of student youth, especially foreign students. Within the framework of legal work to protect the rights and interests of students, the Trade Union cooperates with law firms, which allows to protect the rights and legitimate interests of students within the framework of the educational process, to organize qualified assistance to students in a difficult life situation.
In an open dialogue with the rectorate of the university, the Trade Union is able to solve many problems faced by students, provide a joint search for solutions to improve the educational process, housing and living conditions, and improve students' health.

Trade Union Committee

A primary trade union organization of the Union trade union may be formed in each university, the activities of which are organized and coordinated by the Trade Union Committee elected by members of the primary organization. As a rule, the most active students become members of the trade union committee. The leader of the primary organization of the university is the Chairman of the Trade Union Committee.
You can always contact the trade union committee for help on any issue of student life. For example, if the rights are violated (the promised place in the dormitory is not allocated), if the student has a difficult life situation, because of which he has problems with his studies. You can apply to the Trade Union for coupons for free meals or material assistance, for preferential tickets for cultural events, vouchers.
Students can count not only on social, but also on legal protection. All regulations and orders within the university, regulations on residence in the dormitory, on deduction, on transfer are adopted with the mandatory involvement of the trade union committee.
In addition to protecting rights, the trade union deals with various issues of active student life. Members of the trade union committee help in organizing seminars or sports competitions in which the student wants to participate, or in conducting an excursion (for example, to organizations where you will go to work after graduation).
The Trade Union Committee attracts students to participate in a variety of performances, including creative ones, promotes the organization of a student theater or its own musical group, KVN, organizes student evenings, concerts and other entertainment events.
Trade union committees deal with the issues of temporary employment of students, including organizing summer student detachments.

What benefits does the trade union provide?

The trade union (represented by the elected trade union committee) is actively involved in resolving various conflict situations. This can be an aid in allocating a separate room in a dormitory for a young student family. If a student has problems with academic performance, is threatened with expulsion from the university, the trade union may apply for the possibility of retaking or academic leave (when there are good reasons for this).
If a student has actively shown himself in student life and has proven himself positively, he is more likely not to be expelled.
The trade union has the right to block the expulsion order, to request a deferral of payment for tuition, for the student not to be evicted from the dormitory. In addition, the trade union can contribute to the appointment of a scholarship, even if the student has a C in the score book, citing his active participation in public life as an argument.
Any of the trade union members can apply for vouchers (to a tourist camp, to a dispensary, to a sanatorium, to a student holiday camp) at a discount or free of charge. Trade union members have the opportunity to become participants in the program, which gives real additional discounts on the purchase of railway and air tickets. In addition, through the trade union committee you can buy tickets for various concerts at a reduced price.
The trade union is actively engaged in student exchange programs and can apply to the commission for a particular candidate. He helps in providing and organizing students' trips abroad, actively participates in programs for the exchange of cultural experience with foreign colleagues, involving the management of the educational institution.
The trade union from a special fund provides financial assistance to students. If a student has the official status of "low-income", then on the basis of the decision of a special commission, he also receives a social scholarship (regardless of academic performance). At the same time, he can also count on periodic (for example, once every three months) financial assistance on the basis of an application and a certificate from the educational department on the appointment of a social scholarship.
Other students will also help to get financial support by providing documents confirming such a need (for example, you need a large amount of money for treatment).
Another advantage of active participation in trade union life is the acquisition of leadership qualities and management skills in the process of preparing and holding events. This will help to make a great start in your career and realize yourself in professional activities.

How to join the Trade Union

To join a trade union or not is a purely personal matter. The advantages of membership in the trade union of freshmen are usually introduced to representatives of the trade union committee at meetings of training groups. If you have decided that the trade union will be a good assistant to you in an active student life, just contact the trade union committee of your educational institution, not forgetting to bring your student ID. You will need to fill out an application. Notification of membership in the Trade Union can be issued on paper or in the form of an electronic document.
Don't forget to pay membership fees regularly. The amount of contributions is determined in each primary trade union organization and most often ranges from 1 to 3% of the amount of the scholarship or other income. You can apply to the accounting department (through the trade union committee) for a monthly transfer of such a contribution. Those who do not receive a scholarship pay contributions to the cash desk of the trade union committee on their own.
It's also not difficult to leave the trade union - you just need to write a statement about it. Or you will be expelled if you refuse to pay contributions or repeatedly violate the rules of the organization's charter, ignoring warnings.
Financially, the organization exists precisely at the expense of contributions. Decisions on the expenditure of these funds are made collectively and strictly controlled. Most often they are sent to financial assistance, to ensure rest and health of their members, to hold student events.
